ASKfm Cryptocurrency Promotional Stunt Ends in Death on Mt. Everest

In an attempt to send their coin “to the moon”, ASKfm sent a climbing expedition to scale Mt. Everest and plant a Ledger Nano container 500,000 of their ASKT tokens. According to CNET, Lam Babu Sherpa, a man who helped the ASKfm’s four-man team get to the top of Mount Everest, did not make it back down.

In a statement, ASKfm told CNET that “[s]ince these events transpired, it has since been confirmed by Nepalese authorities and Seven Summit Treks that Sherpa Lam Babu is missing and presumed dead after search and rescue efforts yielded no results.”

Ledger Announces New Desktop and Mobile Applications to Pair with Nano S

According to a press release from the official Ledger website, the hardware company is releasing a new generation Ledger Wallet application, built natively for desktop and mobile that will gather all cryptocurrencies in a single, unified place. The app will be available on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS and won’t require Google Chrome or Chromium anymore.

Some of the features of the new app include:

• Multi currencies (28 cryptos including Bitcoin, Altcoins, Ethereum, Ripple…)
• Multi devices (Ledger Nano S, Ledger Blue)
• Read only consultation of accounts without device (protected by optional password)
• Dashboard view of all assets
• Counter values: choice of currency & exchanges
• Send, receive, account balances & history
• Confirmation before sending funds
• On device verification of the receive address

Coinbase Enters Japan

The operator of the largest U.S. cryptocurrency exchange, Coinbase, is setting up shop in Japan. According to The Wall Street Journal, they’ve recently named Nao Kitazawa (formerly Morgan Stanley) as its new Japan CEO. Coinbase currently operates in the 32 countries, however there in no timeline yet for their entrance in the Japanese market.
